Good Cops Don’t Need Grenade LaunchersThis is Douglas Rushkoff's opening monologue from his Team Human podcast, it's based on an article he wrote called Good Cops Don’t Need Grenade Launchers. https://gen.medium.com/good-cops-dont-need-grenade-launchers-c6110ddb453e
With whats going on in the collective consciousness of our society. Defund, Abolish or Reform the Cops. It was good to listen to Rushkoff's Insights on the subject. One main point in the article was the militarization of our police goes hand in hand with the collapse of civil society. And it really feels like that has been going on for a long time now. Calling guys with guns isn’t the best solution for most problems. When the only tool you have is a hammer, everything looks like a nail.
But as Douglas wrote "It’s easy to tell police to act more like civil servants, but they can only do so in the context of a greater civil society. They need the support of other civil servants — experts in drug abuse, domestic disputes, youth counseling, truancy, homelessness, and so on. By the time someone calls the cops for a problem, it is usually too late. You may as well be calling in the National Guard."
Lastly, it might be important now to think about this, "Civil servants can only exist in a civil society. And a civil society requires servants trained in civility."
I did the video and audio edit for this video. I have permission from Douglas Rushkoff himself to use his audio, much thanks to him. Check out the full podcast EP. 158 RICHARD METZGER “DO THEY OWE US A LIVING?”. Thanks for checking out my video!
Restoring the Economy Is the Last Thing We Should WantWhat a moment we are in. We all understand the dilemma. It’s time for a radical shift.
" If we approach this moment of pause mindfully, the post-Covid economy we create could turn out to be a whole lot more resilient than the old one. Beyond exposing the brittle nature of global supply chains, top-down monetary policy, and a vanquished domestic manufacturing sector, the Covid crisis is also unleashing a powerful drive by local and networked communities to rebuild business from the bottom-up. The mechanisms so many of us are now inventing and retrieving under duress may just survive after this crisis is over, and augur a new era of sustainable commerce and much better distributed prosperity. Think local farms, worker-owned factories, and companies for whom the bottom line has more to do with selling products than selling shares of its stock. Their value created by such enterprises isn’t sucked up and out of communities (the way Amazon or mall stores do), but circulates again and again from one person or business to another. " -Douglas Rushkoff

I Still Believe In The SoulThe formal cause of a human is the soul.
It's the only way to understand what makes a human a human.
I still believe in the soul, it's the only vital force we got..

What Does It Mean To Be Fully Human?(Self) Isolation has its advantages & disadvantages
In times like this, we have space and time to ask ourselves important questions.
What does it mean to be fully human?
What is it that I really want out of life?
What Does It Mean To Be Apart of The Lineage of All of Life?

Surrender To The Idea Of OblivionWe are grounded in this moment in this space and time.
Footnotes to the timeline of history.
What is it that we want to do with this one last song...
Nikki, Rose and I talk about Death and Surrendering to the idea of oblivion. I share a psychedelic tale.
What you really end up doing is, you surrender to the idea of oblivion. At some point you have to wipe absolutely clean every preconception that’s given to you both by the senses and by the culture—the ‘datastream’ that you talk about. You have to actually at some point dismiss it totally, and then you can start to make choices about what you wish to allow back in.
It Doesn't Have To Be This WayThis is why it's so important to have this frame of Team Human and I want to go back to the beginning of The Book:
"Autonomous technologies, runaway markets, and weaponized media seem to have overturned civil society, paralyzing our ability to think constructively, connect meaning fully, or act purposefully. It feels as if civilization itself were on the brink...
It doesn't have to be this way
By unearthing this agenda, we render ourselves capable of transcending its paralyzing effects, reconnecting to one another, and remaking society toward human ends rather than the end of humans."
In this clip, I bring up Team Human The Book as some kind of shining light in these dark times.
Anything that brings us together fosters our humanity...
This Is Not A TestThis is Not A Test, This is An Acid Test for Human Societies Effectiveness.
Covid-19 ha taken a toll on people's lives on a scale that is beyond our imagination. When faced with new things, people always find their vocabulary lacking.
It's the Artist's task to save the soul of humanity. The Shamans were the first poets.
The epidemic has precipitated the thinking on life and death in human society and posed a major challenge for the economy, culture, and morality.
Finding Connection and Resilience During The Pandemic
Everything is Up for Grabs
I think it's time to lean into Oblivion
"I would be lying if I said I wasn’t worried about the virus. I am. But I’ll be damned if I’m going to let the television determine my relationship with this thing. We are not spectators of the COVID-19 show, but participants. This is the moment we need to leverage the very best of our emerging digital sensibilities and capabilities. The less we fixate on images designed to distract, hypnotize, or trigger us, the more we invite our agency to the fore."
Lean Into OblivionSolitude can become loneliness; this happens when
all by myself I am deserted by my own self
(Self) Isolation has its advantages & disadvantages
The world is urged to 'hunker down'
As the Truth and awareness of the crisis is rising
A sense of weirdness is beginning to set in
Lean into Oblivion,
Something is emerging beyond the horizon
Finding Connection and Resilience during the pandemic
As we (Self) Isolate and move pass the loneliness
into the solitude of being alright within our skin,
we have to dig thru the rubble of broken shards of past selves
If you can't go outside
Go within (Lean into Oblivion)
WHO AM I?
WHAT HAVE I BECOME?
What is waiting for us in the mystery of eternity?
Staring at the Screaming Abyss
Lean Into Oblivion
A Sense Of Weirdness Is Beginning To Set InIn this time of Crisis, a sense of weirdness is beginning to set in.
Lean into Oblivion, Something is Emerging Over the Horizon.
As we (self) Isolate and move pass the loneliness into the solitude of introspection, we have to dig through the rubble of the broken shards of past selves...

Bucket Full of Books: Reality HungerA great book allows me to leap over that wall: in a deep, significant conversation with another consciousness, I feel human and unalone.
My taste for quotation, which I have always kept — why reproach me for it? People, in life, quote what pleases them. Therefore, in our work, we have the right to quote what pleases us.
I’m interested in knowing the secrets that connect human beings. At the very deepest level, all our secrets are the same. ― David Shields, Reality Hunger: A Manifesto
